Our History/Who we are

Let me introduce myself. I am Lina Rivas, a Colombian Economist who had to left my home country with my family to begin a new life in Canada.

The Goal Canada (Global Opportunity for Academic Learning)  is the history of my family in Canada.

We arrived in Canada in 2007, our children were 11 and 12 years old and my Husband (Juan) and me were in our 40s. It was a real challenge for us to settle in a new country, a new language, a new culture, but we were comitted to be successful in our endeavour.

The key to success was to approach our plans and goals as a family but also having individual plans for everybody. We defined our goals, action plans and our tasks and in 2008 we developed a "Family Strategic Plan" to approach our process towards success.

Our children were focused in their education and their professional engagement and development in a 10 years term plan.

Juan (my husband) and me had the responsibility of supporting our children in attaining their goals. Learning English, getting a Canadian academic certification to update our academic credentials, these were primary goals for the short term, then we had to engage in the productive sector and work to get the essential resources to live and develop our family project.

In 2018 we met again in a new Strategic Family Plan (and individual) to define our new objective for the next 10 years. It was how Goal Canada was born. We saw the need of helping newcomers to attain their goals trough our own experience.

Along my personal process I worked in the International Education Sector in an International Boarding School in London, Ontario as Marketing and Recruiter Coordinator for international students from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

There is not a better way to help others than with experience. We are going to help students from anywhere around the world to come to Canada. Goal Canada is the right way to attain your goals, to get engaged in the academic system, and then to start working within the Canadian labor force.
